Before you touch a sled or a wall ball, you ski 1,000 m — and HYROX mandates the Concept2 SkiErg with no approved alternative. That is actually good news for training: the machine you buy is the machine you race.

💡 The damper is not a difficulty dial. Concept2 states it affects how the pull feels, not the resistance — you produce every watt either way. Chasing damper 10 mostly just changes the airflow.

🏆 Buying a SkiErg

HYROX uses the Concept2 SkiErg at every event, so there is no "competition-accurate vs close enough" trade-off here the way there is with sleds. Two configurations, same flywheel and PM5 monitor:
